  2. Mental Health: Mental health disorders affect about 1.2 million Canadian children and youth, with 70% of mental health problems emerging during childhood or adolescence.
  3. Substance Use: About 21% of Canadian youth aged 15 to 19 report using cannabis in the past year, and 5% report using other illicit drugs.
  4. Homelessness: On any given night, an estimated 6,000 youth are homeless in Canada, and youth make up about 20-40% of the homeless population.
  5. Education: Indigenous youth in Canada have lower high school completion rates compared to non-Indigenous youth, with about 51% of Indigenous people aged 20 to 24 having completed high school compared to 87% for non-Indigenous people.
  6. Violence: In 2019, there were over 40,000 police-reported violent incidents involving youth in Canada, representing about 20% of all violent incidents.v
